Drug & Alcohol Testing

Simplifying Compliance with Parts 40 & 382

Managing a DOT-compliant testing program involves a variety of tasks, from random testing to post-accident testing and providing a list of Substance Abuse Professionals to any driver who has violated a test. You can accomplish every one of these tasks with the intuitive tools built into FleetMentor.

Random Test Selector

FleetMentor ensures you meet the DOT’s required number of tests. The random test selection tool allows you to conduct your random draws and track the number of completed tests throughout the year. Using a computer-based selection process, the tool automatically determines the required number of drivers that need to be randomly selected for each type of test – no less than the DOT requirements of 50% for drug testing and 10% for alcohol testing.

Post-Accident Decision Wizard

Following an accident, certain variables must be met in order to conduct a post-accident drug or alcohol test. Not testing when you're supposed to — or testing when you shouldn't — are violations and can result in costly fines and penalties. Use this post-accident Decision Wizard to quickly determine when testing is required.

Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) List

Under the DOT regulations, all employers must supply a list of Substance Abuse Professionals (SAPs) to any driver who has violated DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations. FleetMentor makes it simple to create and manage a custom list of SAPs, including their name, address and credentials.

Expert Tip

"The requirements for DOT drug testing are outlined in 49 CFR Part 382, and drivers operating commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) requiring a commercial driver’s license (CDL) are subject to these regulations. Procedures for administering the drug tests are outlined in 49 CFR Part 40. The regulations require the following DOT drug tests: pre-employment, post-accident, random, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing."
